This is far from the best part (the best parts, wishing not to spoil anything, involve Wakamoto and Suzaku), but it’s pretty great.
Yes, they’re assholes.
That’s the point. Luke’s the first person in the party to get legit character development in Tales of the Abyss. Everyone else will inevitably follow his lead. Luke will act as a symbol to the other five that you can change. At that point in the game, everyone else was…
The difference being that while Luke is 7 crammed in a teenage body and taught from the very start of his existence to always obey and trust Van, Anise has some actual freewill and could have mentioned her problems AT LITERALLY ANY POINT and the party could have stopped and dealt with thing.
Christ I hate Anise.

THIRTY GAMEPLAY MINUTES PRIOR: okay so we’re in the castle after having to deal with some fucking sewers (and it is always sewers). Play the stupid distract-the-guards-minigame, find the…
This is hysterical and stirring up all kinds of memories. I loved this game when I played it but it’s SO LONG and has a LOT of problems that kind of discourage you from picking it up again. The real kicker is that the Zodiac patch suddenly finished when I was about 75% of the way through the game. Maybe I’ll try getting that to work one day.
Vaan I’d have no issue with if he just wore a fucking shirt. And indeed, when I next saw him in A2 and he was wearing a shirt, I had no problem with him and he was a goofy little rival for Luso.
Balthier is the fucking man and god do I love Fran’s voice, wish I knew what the hell it was supposed to sound like.

Every month, Viva Tales of Magazine holds a poll for the most popular Tales characters. This list is from the July 2012 issue.
NOTE: This poll is not the big one they hold every few years or so.
Males:
1.) Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)
2.) Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss)
3.) Asbel…
Emil, Pascal, and Colette on any list? Fuck off Japan.
Least Yuri’s at the top of men, but god damn putting Emil on any list just invalidates it all.

The only really memorable bits of YMK are the strangling scene and DO NOT ENDURE.
I’m not saying Bea has a problem with guro, merely that you should know what you’re getting into before you try any Urobuchi work except maybe Fate Zero, and Saya in particular is something you should be warned of.
Higurashi is shit and Umineko is a lot of REALLY AWESOME setpieces and a REALLY AWESOME premise with a FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT ending. Arguably worth it just for the music though, because goddamn.
Dang, and I just finished downloading Fate/Zero at your recommendation.
Fate Zero is considerably less violent than most of Urobuchi’s stuff, certainly less gory than Saya, and in some ways less dark than Madoka. It’s a lot more of a pure action series than his other titles due to being set in the nasuverse and having specific limits and requirements on it.
Either way, I wasn’t saying that nobody should read Saya or anything, I was saying that just suggesting it out of the blue with no explanation wasn’t really a good way to handle a newbie who only played a comedy pigeon dating game (As far as I know anyway).

saya no uta!!!! you’ve probably already played it though I dunno, also yume miru kusuri
thanks! these are a totally new thing to me i will look into them
bird dating sim turned out to be hilarious + sort of poignant
It’s not a good idea to go into Saya no Uta unprepared. Suffice it to say that the main character sees everything as guro.
For a newbie, Tsukihime (which is fairly dated at this point but still good) or Fate Stay Night would be better.
YMK is boring as shit aside of a couple of scenes.
